Subjects & Staff Profiles

As a general note about all our tutors, we only employ those whose attitude to teaching and ability to teach impress us upon interview. They are our sole asset, and we depend on their quality to generate future teaching opportunities through recommendations from happy students and their mums and dads. AMG appreciates any feedback that you can give about our staff as it is a vital source of information for continuing staff evaluation and training.

I hope that all lessons at AMG are both useful and enjoyable, and I encourage all staff to liaise with parents as major stake-holders in their children’s education. Should you need any further details about our tutors, please don’t hesitate to contact me, Liz Gower, on 2526-4097, or at gower@amghk.com.hk

SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

  • Devyn Ho

    Tutor of Mathematics FT

Devyn joined AMG in 2017 with plenty of experience in tutoring, having taught Mathematics in Hong Kong in the English language since 2012, mostly in one-to-one tutoring environments.

He teaches towards the IGCSE, GCSE, GCE, SAT and IB to higher levels, but is also adept at preparing younger learners for their UK Secondary School Entrance examinations.  His own qualifications in Mathematics are excellent.  He gained A’s in Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in his HKCEE examinations and an A in Pure Mathematics at HK A level.  He also holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Devyn is a much-liked tutor due to his gentle temperament, warm sense of humour, and overall calm and patient methods.

  • Becky Fox

Tutor of Biology and General Science PT

Becky joined AMG for the 2011/2012 academic year and worked with us for three years. She has always been extremely popular as a tutor and I was delighted when she joined us again in December 2016. She graduated from the University of Exeter (UK) with a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences, and was commended by the School of Biosciences for her contribution to the school. Rebecca is a gentle and well-informed tutor who excels at teaching the younger students towards the 11+ and 13+ General Science. Sadly, Becky will be leaving us at the end of August 2019. Perhaps the draw of HK will bring her back.

  • Ged Wood

Senior Tutor of Biology and General Science FT

Ged has been working at AMG since 1999. He teaches general Science to 13+ level, Chemistry to IGCSE/GCSE level, and Biology to A2 and IB Diploma level. He has a BSc Hons degree in Physiology and a PhD in neurophysiology. He has a solid reputation for good teaching and a tremendous breadth of knowledge. He has a following in HK, as his students gain excellent results. He is a ‘tough’ tutor but has a quiet sense of humour that goes down well with his students. Please bear in mind that Ged prefers to talk to Hong Kong parents in Cantonese, as he has spent many years learning the language in order to communicate.

  • David Lam

Tutor of Mathematics and IT FT

David joined us full-time from August 1st 2014. He comes to AMG with a mass of relevant qualifications and experience: He holds a BSC (Hons) in Mathematics and an MSc Information Technology – both from the HK Polytechnic University. He has also held a PGDE since 2010 which he gained at the University of HK. He has been teaching since 1993 at a variety of schools in HK including Sear Rogers International and Caritas Chai Wan, and has taught Physics, Mathematics and Computer Studies throughout the secondary system. He has been a tutor and tutor trainer for the Math Olympiad School from 2007 and his students have gone on to take an impressive array of medals in this internationally recognized test of Maths skills. As you will gather from the above, David is not a fresh graduate, and we hope his maturity and experience will be appreciated by our students. His English is acceptable for Mathematical purposes, but he also speaks Cantonese and Mandarin, so it will be easy for all our parents to communicate with him. David is a quiet, dedicated teacher.

  • Jeff Au

Jeff has a Bachelor Degree in Physics (with Mathematics) from HKUST. At HKAL he gained an A in applied Mathematics. He has been tutoring with AMG since October 2007, and is a popular tutor. Sadly, his times with AMG are limited.

  • Steven Wright

    Senior Tutor of English PT

Steven has been working with us since December 2006, and has developed a special following because of his lively and interactive lessons and attention to detail. He graduated with a first Class degree in English Literature and Language from the University of East Anglia, School of English and American Studies. He is a prolific reader and has an eclectic set of interests, so his teaching is well-received by many students. He takes a firm, no-nonsense approach with his students, but his sense of humour ensures the lessons are nevertheless enjoyable. With more than ten years of experience with AMG, Steve is fully able to assist with IGCSE, A Level, and IB preparation.

His particular strengths lie in helping students develop their written expression and building their vocabulary through careful text analysis and comprehension exercises. He prepares students towards the IGCSE, IB and GCSE AS and A2 examinations. He also helps structure well-formed essays with clear logical links and supports. He is able to help with the types of text analysis used in the SAT, SSAT, and LNAT tests, and he works with students aiming for the IELTS. For younger students, John is completely familiar with the testing structures used by the UK independent secondary schools, and has successfully helped students enter Winchester College, Tonbridge, Eton, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Benenden, and many other top schools. John also offers guidance towards the interviews for these schools.

ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS STUDIES

  • Florence Gan

    Tutor of Economics PT

Florence has a Masters of Economics from the La Trobe University (Australia). She has worked at the Hong Kong Baptist University where she was an instructor in the Department of Economics. Prior to working at the HKBU, Florence taught Economics for the Warwick University Higher Education Foundation. In total, she has more than 17 years of working and teaching experience at Advanced levels. Here at AMG, she has taught students whose courses prepare them towards the GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A2 qualifications in Economics, as well as for the IB diploma in Economics.
She is a popular teacher whose timetable fills rapidly at holiday times, as students returning from the UK schools oftentimes request her. Usually demand outstrips the number of hours that Florence is able to give to AMG. She is a fluent speaker of both English and Cantonese, but teaches solely in English (unless the student requests a break in that language).

MODERN LANGUAGES

  • Amy Regester

Tutor of English, French and Spanish FT

Amy Regester joined AMG in October 2017 to teach English, French and Spanish. She is young, personable, highly motivated and comes to us with excellent references. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in French and Hispanics (BA Hons) together with a postgraduate teaching certificate for English Language. I recommend her most highly. From September, 2019 - May 2020, Amy will change her role at AMG for one year while she undertakes a Masters course.  Her teaching times will become restricted.

  • Hannes Dittrich

    Tutor of German PT

Hannes has been working with AMG on a part-time basis since July 2008, and has a large following of students who attend his lessons during the holiday periods in particular. His personal weekly teaching schedule is usually rather fully-booked since he is a renowned personal tutor, and he teaching times are scarce and valuable.
He is a native speaker of German, hailing from Heidelberg in Germany and has taught for Berlitz Language Centers in Hong Kong. He teaches towards the GCSE, IGCSE and IB programmes here in HK, and also helps our UK-based students prepare towards their AS and A2 examinations.
His students find him to be approachable, confidence-inspiring and professional, and his teaching gains good results. I have been trying to persuade him to join us full-time since he joined us.
